Bath wants Gippsland women in agriculture to apply for Rural Women’s Network

The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath is encouraging Gippsland women making a difference in regional Victoria to apply for the Victorian Rural Women’s Network.

The $500,000 program provides funded places on a range of leadership programs targeted at rural Victorian women connected to agriculture or the agriculture supply chain.

Ms Bath said the Victorian Rural Women’s Network is a mechanism whereby female regional leaders can further develop their leadership skills and advocate for country communities like Gippsland.

“Gippsland comprises over 18% of Victoria and is well renowned economic agricultural region.

“It is important our women leaders are well represented and have an opportunity to develop and advocate for their industry on the state stage,” said Ms Bath.

Agribusiness is a significant employer in Gippsland, with over a third of Gippsland’s business classified as agriculture and fishing industries.

Ms Bath said she had the pleasure of meeting many determined, strong and driven female leaders working in agriculture in Gippsland since coming to parliament four years ago.

“This leadership and mentoring program would help support these women to continue to play a key role in driving the future and provide a voice for our agricultural sector,” said Ms Bath.

“There are many women in Gippsland blazing a trail in agriculture and it’s important to encourage them to join platforms to develop and showcase their skills and knowledge.

“This program is for both experienced and emerging leaders and provides an opportunity to further build skills and network with other like minded women from across the state.

“I strongly encourage Gippsland women who are actively contributing to our rural communities and who are passionate about their work and community to consider applying.

There are five programs available in 2020, with applications open throughout 2019 for the 2020 intake.
