Northe calls on Labor to publicly release plans for Morwell Primary School Regeneration Project
Thursday 11 February 2016
Member for Morwell Russell Northe has called on the Andrews Government to make public the plans for the Morwell Primary School regeneration project.
Mr Northe said with works underway on the Morwell site many community groups and members of the public had visited his office wanting to view plans and see what the completed project will encompass.
“There had been previous discussions around the integration of pre-school services, the possibility of maternal health services and even some educational and training opportunities for parents,” Mr Northe said.
“Our community deserves to know the detail of these plans which the Government and its members have previously mentioned in media releases.
“It’s ridiculous that the Government will not publicly release the plans for this project which will have an impact on not just the current school communities but many of our local families.”
The Morwell Primary School regeneration project involves consolidating Commercial Road Primary School, Tobruk Street Primary School and Morwell Primary School on the one site whilst redeveloping Morwell Park Primary School.
“The Coalition committed $13 million to the project with Labor committing $12 million to the same project and whilst it's acknowledged $9.45 million was provided in the 2015/2016 budget the scope of works excluded funding for Morwell Park Primary School causing particular angst for that school community,” Mr Northe said.
Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath also backed Mr Northe’s call for the government to be more transparent.
“This is a project that has been much anticipated and I know many local families are keen to hear the full scope of what the buildings will entail,” Ms Bath said.
“I urge the Andrews Government to ensure that Latrobe Valley residents are better informed on projects that will impact them.”
