Safety in Latrobe comes second under Daniel Andrews

New Police figures released today by the Victorian Police Association shows residents in Latrobe region are not getting their fair share of new police resources under Daniel Andrews.

The Victorian Police Association has today stated that of the 900 new Police allocated over the past 3 years, only 77 officers have gone to regional Victoria (around 8.6%) with only four new recruits slated for Latrobe Valley region.

This paltry allocation of new officers comes as the latest independent crime statistics agency data confirms total offences in the Latrobe have risen over 23% under Daniel Andrews, from December 2014 to March 2019.

The increase in crime includes a dramatic jump in the following serious offences in Latrobe over the 12 months to March 2019;

  • 5% increase in property and deception offences
  • 1% increase in drug related offences
  • 5% increase in other offences including transport regulation offenses

When it comes to the safety of regional Victorians, Daniel Andrews has left local Police and local communities to fend for themselves.

Comments attributable to Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath

 “Local Police in Latrobe Valley work hard to keep our communities safe, but they aren’t getting the support they deserve from the Andrews Labor Government.”

“Daniel Andrews needs look beyond Melbourne, wake up to the need of regional communities like Latrobe Valley and ensure our communities get their fair share of police resources.”
