Landcare showcase held at state parliament

Landcare and Friends of groups have put on a display at state parliament this week transforming Queens Hall into a leafy green haven.

The Landcare showcase which ran over two days of the sitting week featured Landcare groups from all over Victoria with many groups attending from Gippsland.

The Nationals’ Melina Bath who is also Shadow Minister for Public Land Management said the expo made good on her commitment to bring Landcare to parliament 12 months ago.

“Space in Queens Hall is highly sought after, so after a yearlong wait it was wonderful to see our Landcare and Friends of Groups networking and putting the important environmental work they perform on display for state MP’s and visitors.”

Ms Bath said the event was an exceptional event that enjoyed bipartisan support from the Parliament Friends of Landcare that she is a member of.

“As a regional MP I understand the vital role Landcare plays in promoting sustainable land management practices, improving biodiversity, and enhancing the health of our local ecosystems.

“While Friends of Groups work alongside Landcare to actively engage our communities in hands-on environmental conservation work.

“Through active collaboration and a shared vision, they plant native trees, shrubs and grasses, maintain soil health, perform weed and rubbish removal and organise and host environment for the long-term sustainability of our natural resources.
