The Nationals’ Member for Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath has slammed the Allan Government for recycling road funding announcements in a desperate bid to appear proactive on road safety and maintenance.
Ms Bath said Labor’s September 2025 media release is almost a carbon copy of its October 2024 release which exposes the government’s reliance on rehashed rhetoric rather than real investment.
“This latest road announcement is nothing more than a copy and paste propaganda piece – same Minister, same quotes, and no new funding to fix our crumbling roads,” Ms Bath said.
Labor has again claimed that ‘an army of road workers will deliver the equivalent of $2.6 million worth of works every day of the year – with around 70 per cent of funding going to regional Victoria.’
And
‘Over the next nine months, crews will complete thousands of projects across the network, from road rehabilitation and resurfacing to pothole patching and bridge maintenance.’
Ms Bath said the duplication is a blatant attempt to mask years of neglect and labelled the announcement disgraceful and disrespectful.
“Our regional roads are in a dire state – from the M1 to key arterial routes connecting country communities, potholes and safety hazards are being ignored
“Regional Victorians aren’t fooled, they know the Allan Government is heavy on spin and light on substance.
“Eastern Victorians deserve safe and well maintained roads, and The Nationals will continue to fight for genuine investment and call out government inaction.
“Labor can’t manage money, can’t manage our roads and regional Victorians are paying the price.”
