The Nationals’ Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath is urging motorists to drive safely on the roads over the Australia Day weekend and for campers to act responsibly by observing regulations.
“Australia Day weekend is often the last hurrah of summer before children return to school and many parents head back to work,” Ms Bath said.
“Australia Day is for all Australians, no matter where our journey began to come together, celebrate our way of life and acknowledge our history.
“There are many community events occurring locally, and attending these is a great way to connect with others and express pride in our country and way of life.”
Ms Bath said she expected eastern Victoria’s roads to be busy, with visitors travelling to the region’s coastal and mountain towns to enjoy the final days of the school holidays.
“When driving please take care, be patient, and adjust to the conditions.
“If you’re camping, I ask that you do the right thing by observing fire warnings and advice, properly extinguishing all campfires and removing your rubbish.
“Temperatures are forecast to rise over the weekend so please stay informed of the fire risk in your area.
“When enjoying our great outdoors, take photos and leave only footprints – it is important that our bushland and beaches are respected so future generations can enjoy them as we do.”
