The ANZAC Awards Committee Victoria has opened nominations for its 2020 ANZAC Day Awards.
Up to seven ANZAC of the Year Awards will be awarded in Victoria, while one ANZAC Peace Prize may be awarded nationally.
The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath said she asking her constituents to reflect upon and consider a person in our local community, group or a workplace that is worthy of receiving a nomination.
“Nominees of the ANZAC Awards can literally be anyone in our community as long as they display the qualities outlined in the award criteria,” said Ms Bath.
“There is always someone or a group of individuals in our community that really stands out, selflessly dedicating their time to helping others with understanding and compassion.”
The aim of the ANZAC of the Year Award is to recognise efforts and achievement who have given their service to their fellow Australians, while the ANZAC Peace Prize recognises the outstanding contribution of one individual who has promoted international understanding and made a contribution to world peace.
Ms Bath said both awards are incredibly prestigious as they embody the spirit and tradition of the ANZAC.
“Specially designed medallions depicting Simpson and his donkey are presented to each of the recipients.
“Simpson and his donkey is revered and recognised as one of the most prominent symbols of Australian courage, tenacity and sacrifice through their contribution to the story of ANZAC.
“The ANZAC spirit is revered and respected within Australia, having played a significant role in shaping the character of Australia.
“It continues to provide inspiration to generations of Australians.”

Ms Bath said the awards recognise everyday Australians who are achieving great things and serving as an inspiration for the local community.
