Bath continues fighting for Wonthaggi PS upgrade

Funding for Wonthaggi Primary School upgrades must be included in Tuesday’s state budget says Eastern Victoria MP and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Melina Bath.

Parents have long campaigned for significant infrastructure upgrades, working with school staff and an architect to develop a Master Plan.

“While hardworking teachers are doing their best to deliver quality education in cramped and woeful conditions, the buildings need an overhaul.

Advocating for the community, students and teachers, Ms Bath says that urgent funding must be in the May budget.

Both sides of politics made a $6.7 million election commitment for Stage 1 works.

Ms Bath said it is imperative that Andrews Government honours its promise to the Wonthaggi community.

“After years of being overlooked for funding by Labor, it’s time Wonthaggi Primary School received prioritised funding.”

“Wonthaggi Primary School has a proud history dating back to 1911, and it’s long overdue to receive modern fit for purpose educational facilities.

“The upgrades must address major infrastructure issues including the replacement of a portable which acts as a makeshift science room and is so small there’s no room for tables and chairs.

“Furthermore, the school needs new bathroom facilities and an updated library – these are basic requirements.

“The community is expecting to see a ‘Wonthaggi Primary School’ line item in the May budget and a government media release announcing the timeline – anything less is unacceptable. “

“The Nationals are committed to supporting students, teachers and school administrators so quality educational infrastructure is delivered for this community.”
