The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath is encouraging homeowners with pools and spas to review proposed changes and make their views and experiences heard.
“Feedback is being sought from homeowners with swimming pools and spas over the next month.
“This allows people who will be effected by any regulatory changes to have their say and I encourage this” said Ms Bath.
Feedback is being sought on drafted Building Amendment (Swimming Pool and Spa) Regulations 2019.
The proposed Regulations include the mandatory requirement for owners of private swimming pools and spas to register them with their local council, as well as to engage a registered building surveyor or inspector to inspect and certify the compliance of safety barriers every three years.
The Regulations, as well as a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) that examines the costs and benefits of the proposed Regulations and alternative options that were considered, can be viewed online at engage.vic.gov.au/new-safety-standards-private-swimming-pools-and-spas.
Stakeholders can also make a submission at the above web address during the consultation period, which is open until 5pm on 6 September 2019.
“The requirements proposed are significant and will effect pool and spa owners across Gippsland; so view the proposals and have your say,” concluded Ms Bath.
