The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath demanded answers on SEA Electric jobs in Latrobe Valley on behalf the community in State Parliament today.
Ms Bath called on the Andrews Government to explain how many Latrobe Valley people have been employed by SEA Electric and how many have now lost their jobs.
During the 2018 state election, Premier Daniel Andrews announced SEA Electric would create 500 manufacturing jobs in Latrobe Valley.
Ms Bath said the Andrews Government also made a commitment to secure a factory site in Latrobe Valley by December 2019.
“To date no site has been announced and there is serious doubt on the realisation of the promised jobs in Latrobe Valley,” said Ms Bath.
“During questioning by The Nationals, the Andrews Government recently admitted only 59 jobs had been created by SEA Electric; infuriatingly these positions are not in Latrobe Valley,” said Ms Bath.
“Latest ABS workforce figures show that Latrobe Gippsland has suffered the greatest job losses in Victoria.
“It is inexcusable that Daniel Andrews has again failed to deliver for our community.
“With nothing materialised, Latrobe Valley residents have become jaded by Labor’s empty SEA Electric job promises.
“At a time when we should be rebooting Victoria’s manufacturing sector, Labor has abandoned Latrobe Valley workers.
“The Latrobe Valley community deserve answers from the Andrews Government on its commitment to create many hundreds of local SEA Electric jobs,” Ms Bath said.
The State Government has 30 days to provide a response to Ms Bath’s questions.
