Local students encouraged to enter the Parliamentary Prize competition

The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath is encouraging local students to enter the annual Parliament of Victoria’s 2023 Parliament Prize competition.

“Entries are now open for students in Years 5 -12 for this year Parliamentary Prize – all students need to do is submit a video of themselves presenting a Member’s Statement,” Ms Bath said.

“A Member’s Statement is an opportunity for elected members to make a brief statement in State Parliament on matters of interest or concern to them and the people living in their electorate and can be up to 90 seconds in length.

“Students entering the competition can record themselves, or alternatively use an animated avatar if they prefer.

“This is a great project for students to undertake on their own or complete as a class project with their teacher.

“It provides students with a voice about their own communities and issues that are important to them, their families, and friends.

“As The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Education, I have had the privilege of meeting many wonderful students who are passionate about issues in our local community.

“I am certain our students can write and perform a fabulous Members Statement on an issue close to their community’s heart.”

The Parliamentary Prize competition is open to all Victorian primary and secondary school students, with age categories of years 5-6, years 7-9 and years 10-12.

Students have the opportunity to win $500 for themselves, and $1,000 for their school.
