The Liberal Nationals have stepped up the pressure on the Andrews Labor Government to provide
funding in the upcoming budget to finish the duplication of the Princes Highway between Traralgon
and Sale.
Shadow Minister for Rural Roads Roma Britnell, The Nationals Member Gippsland South Danny O’Brien
and The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath today sent a strong message to
the Andrews Labor Government calling for the funding to be placed on the table on Monday.
The Princes Highway is a major arterial road connecting Gippsland communities and supports
business. An estimated 15,000 vehicles use this section of the Princes Highway daily.
Duplicating the road will improve road safety, transport efficiency and attract people to live,
work and visit the region.
A $132 million dollar commitment has been secured from the Federal Government, once there is a
State Government commitment.
Labor’s delays have left Gippslander’s frustrated as the duplication works have dragged on
unnecessarily.
Daniel Andrews must stop playing politics in Gippsland and provide the road funding needed to
finish the highway duplication.
Comments attributable to Roma Britnell, Shadow Minister for Rural Roads
“The highway duplication is an important development that connects regional communities.”
“Gippslander’s are tired of city centric Labor putting the brakes on this project.”
Comments attributable to Danny O’Brien, Member for Gippsland South
“Our Federal Member, Darren Chester has secured a $132 million commitment from the Federal
Government, yet Daniel Andrews has refused to commit the final $33 million over the past four and a
half years.”
“It is time Daniel Andrews listened to Gippslanders and made the Traralgon to Sale highway
duplication a high priority.”
“Monday’s budget is Daniel Andrews’ opportunity to listen to the people of Gippsland.
Comments attributable to Melina Bath, Member for Eastern Victoria Region
“The constant delays in completing the highway duplication has left Gippsland communities and
business operators severely frustrated.”
“Daniel Andrews states he is ‘governing for all Victorian’s, so it is time he placed his money
where his mouth is and funded the final stretch of the highway duplication.”
