Traralgon CBD now is now better equipped to deal with health emergencies after Melina Bath, Member for Eastern Victoria Region recently installed a defibrillator for the community in her Traralgon electorate office. Ms Bath is one of many MP’s who have nominated their electorate offices to be fit with one of the lifesaving machines across the state.
Melina Bath said defibrillators help keep everyone safe and offer a level of protection for the community. More defibrillators in our community is a good thing as they actively save lives in the event of emergency.
“Due to the location of our office on Franklin Street and our proximity to the Traralgon CBD, Stockland Plaza and local primary schools it made perfect sense to have a defibrillator located within our office for the community to access in the event of an emergency,” said Ms Bath.
Without a defibrillator close by, the survival rate for sudden cardiac arrest is somewhere between two and five per cent. When a defibrillator is used within the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest, the rate of survival can rise to 70 per cent.
“We are encouraging anyone in the community who urgently needs this life saving device to access it at my electorate office. We know that you cannot harm anyone by using a defibrillator, but you can help save their life.
In the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, the only thing that will restart the heart is a shock from a defibrillator.
“I thank Ambulance Victoria’s Paul James for attending my electorate office and explaining the straight forward operating procedure of the defibrillator.”
If a defibrillator is urgently required, Melina Bath MP’s office is located at 181 Franklin Street in Traralgon, opposite Stockland Plaza. The office is open Monday – Friday 9AM – 5PM and the defibrillator is located in the entrance foyer of the office.
“In the event of emergency any member of the community can come in and access it, any life saved is a great thing,” said Ms Bath.
