Victorians deserve to be told how the Andrews Labor Government plans to ease the state’s lockdown restrictions.
The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath says it is time for Daniel Andrews to end the secrecy and outline the milestones which must be met in order to wind back some of Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions.
“Gippslanders have been doing our bit to comply with Stage 3 restrictions for the past two months and it’s kept our number of positive cases low,” Ms Bath said.
“We’ve done the hard yards to comply with restrictions on gatherings and social distancing to save lives and now we deserve to know what steps the Andrews Government is planning to take as it considers relaxing some restrictions on May 11.”
The Andrews Government says it will reconsider the State of Emergency on May 11.
With a record number of Australians downloading the Federal Government’s COVIDSafe app, accurate information is now available to assist with contact tracing of community transmission.
Ms Bath said Gippslanders were frustrated with the lack of transparency from the Andrews Government.
“Nationally, the COVID-19 curve has flattened and community transmissions reduced, despite individual differences in state restrictions,” Ms Bath said.
“Victorians are becoming increasingly frustrated with restrictions that aren’t common sense and are taking a toll on the mental wellbeing of the young and old as well as our economy.
“While we must still listen to advice on gatherings and social distancing, it’s time to allow people to get out locally for traditional, solo bush user activities such as fishing, hunting, bush walking, prospecting and 4WDriving.
“And with medical experts telling us our schools are safe, children must be allowed to return to the classroom before their learning falls behind.
“Labor must be more transparent with the community and deliver much needed hope by outlining the intended plan to ease Victoria’s strict restrictions.”
