The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath has congratulated the Latrobe Valley community for their efforts in lobbying the State Government to have an Aquatic centre built in Traralgon.
Ms Bath said when commencing as State Member of Parliament in 2015, one of the first community activities she was involved with included gathering signatures for the petition to have the Aquatic Centre developed on the site of old Traralgon pool.
“A new aquatic centre for Latrobe Valley has been a long time coming and it’s opening this week is a welcome event, said Ms Bath.
“The campaign led by local residents to lobby the state government to build an indoor aquatic centre to cater for recreational learn to swim, health rehabilitation, sport and recreation clubs, schools, families, competitive swimmers and community must be acknowledged as part of the opening.
“It is only through the vision and tenacity of local residents that the outdoor pool site has been now been developed into a state-of-the-art Aquatic facility.
“The community must be proud that all their hard work and determination has been rewarded and the old Traralgon outdoor pool has finally be given a new lease on life to take Latrobe Valley well into the future.
“Quality community facilities positively enhance health outcomes for regional towns and the Aquatic Centre project was a priority for local residents for many years.
“The former Traralgon pool was built in 1959 had had its day and I send my sincere congratulations to the Latrobe Valley community for never giving up on the Aquatic Centre project,” said Ms Bath.
