The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region Melina Bath is encouraging grassroots football and netball clubs and umpiring associations in Latrobe Valley to apply for grants of up to $100,000 to improve their facilities.
Applications for the current round of The Country Football and Netball Program are now open and close on 3 June 2019.
Ms Bath said funding assistance was available for facility improvements like ground resurfacing, installation of lighting, building modern and safer netball courts and new pavilions with accessible and female-friendly change rooms.
“The Country Football and Netball Program enables local football and netball clubs to make the improvements needed so we can continue to enjoy playing the sports we love,” Ms Bath said.
“Having high quality sporting facilities is central to encouraging more Victorians to get more active, more often.
“Country football and netball is incredibly popular in Latrobe City and there are many local facilities that could utilise a grant to improve or modernise.
“With our local football netball league competitions commencing this weekend, it is a great time to assess and consider improvements required around your local club to enhance player experiences.
“As well as encouraging participation in football and netball, the initiative helps to stimulate the local economy by creating jobs during construction.”
Clubs located in Latrobe City must register their interest in applying for funding by submitting an Expression of Interest to the Council.
“I strongly encourage clubs to contact Latrobe City about the timelines for the Expressions of Interest,” Ms Bath said.
