Creativity Comp for Remembrance Day

The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath is encouraging local primary school students to get creative and enter the annual Remembrance Day Poster Competition.

Commemorative programs like the poster competition help to foster the participation of younger Australians in memorial services and activities and help to nurture a spirit of connectedness for our primary school students with our nation’s past.

The theme for the 2019 poster competition is ‘Flowers of war’.

A stunning exhibition of 500 individual handcrafted floral brooch emblems in keeping with this year’s poster competition theme is on display at the Shrine of Remembrance, titled ‘Flowers of war wreath’.

“Remembrance Day, the 11th day of the 11th month, is a great opportunity for everyone to annually honour those who have served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation,” Ms Bath said.

“The Remembrance Day poster competition provides students with the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the importance of remembering and honouring Australia’s service and military history.

“The competition also offers students the opportunity to prepare for commemoration in advance of Remembrance Day and to express their gratitude to Australia’s service men and women.

“I encourage all local primary schools to consider entering this year’s competition.”

Entries close 5pm Tuesday 8 October 2019. For further information on the poster competition, visit www.shrine.org.au/postercomp.
