Once again Premier, release Victoria’s bushfire fuel load maps

Daniel Andrews continues to refuse the release of bushfire fuel load maps for Victoria, despite an order from State Parliament to make the documents public.

The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath said following the Legislative Council’s 11 December deadline, she called upon Daniel Andrews to immediately release the maps on December 19.

“Both Parliament’s deadline and my requests have been ignored.

“It has been over eight weeks since Parliament ordered the Premier to release the bushfire fuel load maps.

“Daniel Andrews refusal continues despite devastating bushfires impacting East Gippsland this summer bushfire and the maps being routinely released in the past.

“This is not leadership, this is censorship and the public have the right to know.”

During January Gippsland tragically experienced the worse bushfire emergency since Black Saturday in 2009.

Ms Bath said it is imperative Daniel Andrews outlines exactly what he knew.”

“The time for playing political games is gone,” said Ms Bath.

“Daniel Andrews must be transparent.

“This fire season has been devastating and all Gippslanders deserve to know exactly what was and was not known by the Andrews Government.

Ms Bath said Gippslanders also need to know what bushfire risk they continue to face.

“Withholding vital information from the public is negligent and following the East Gippsland bushfire emergency it is alarming.

“We have months of dangerous bushfire conditions still to come.

“I am again calling upon Daniel Andrews to immediately release the bushfire fuel maps for Victoria.”
