Youth unemployment remains high in Gippsland

The youth unemployment rate in Gippsland remains amongst the highest in the state, Member for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath says.

New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that the youth unemployment rate now sits at 13.3 per cent – 43 per cent higher than the average across regional Victoria, which is 9.3 per cent.

“13.3 per cent youth unemployment is 2.1 per cent higher than when Daniel Andrews came to office in December 2014,” Ms Bath said.

“Industries across Gippsland have been hit hard by the policies of this city-centric government.”

“The number of young people in Gippsland and Latrobe Valley with jobs is now 4,784 less than when the Andrews Labor Government was elected, the ABS data shows.”

“This figure of 4,784 is broken down into 2,881 less in full-time work and 1,903 less working part-time.”

“The youth unemployment rate in Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley remains unacceptably high. What is Daniel Andrews doing to help the young people of this region break into the workforce?”
